At Kausani the mountains rise so dramatically as if to reach the heavens. In fact not just Kausani the entire Kumaon Hills have been known for their idyllic beauty with the huge mountains silhouetted against the sky. Kausani was originally called Valna. It offers the magic of the deep rhododendron forests and the majestic mountains.

Kausani the birthplace of the famed poet Sumitra Nandan Pant is often referred to as the 'Switzerland of India' owing to its natural bounty.Kausani stands high at an altitude of 1890 m above sea level. Offers a spectacular 240 km-wide panoramic view of Himalayan peaks like Trisul, Nanda Kot and Panchchuli; and a stunning view of the Baijnath valley at an altitude of 3000 feet to Trishul at 25662 feet - all from the same spot!! The area is rich in nature, from oak forests to flaming rhododendron bushes and forests teeming with bird and animal life.

The ancient town of Baijnath around 16 km's away was established by the Katyuri kings of Kumaon in the 9-10th century. Anashakti Ashram where Gandhiji lived, Laxmi Ashram: the centre of the Sarvodaya movement and the Sarla-ben and Gandhi museums add a touch of solemnity to Kausani.

Road Route 1 (433 Kms): Delhi – Hapur – Moradabad – Ramnagar (Corbett National Park) – Ranikhet – Kausani.(Approximately 13 hours)

Road Route 2 (405 Kms): Delhi – Hapur – Moradabad – Rampur – Haldwani – Kathgodam – Bhimtaal – Bhawali – Khairna – Almora – Kausani. (Approximately 11 hours)

By Rail: Kathgodam is the nearest railway station to Kausani situated at a distance of 132kms. Kathgodam is well connected by Railway networks with major destinations of India like Lucknow, Delhi and Kolkata. Trains are frequent to Kathgodam as it is the gateway of Kumaon region. Buses and Taxis are easily available to Kausani from Kathgodam.

By Air: The nearest airport for Kausani is Pantnagar. Pantnagar Airport is situated 162kms from Kausani. Taxis are available to Kausani, Haldwani, Nainital and Almora from Pant Nagar Airport.

By Bus: Kausani is very well connected by state owned bus services. Bus services connect Kausani to other hill stations like Almora, Ranikhet, Nainital and Pithoragarh. Many overnight buses owned by private companies ply between New Delhi and Kausani.
